I wanted to let everyone know that we have decided to further enforce the safety requirements by inspecting fencing gloves in all Saskatchewan tournaments from now on, especially as a reminder for the up coming Canada Cup West.
Basically, all equipment must not have buckles, openings (holes), or any other damage which can “catch” a blade. Any holes or damage should be patched with a robust material (not tape) and be properly stitched. The complete rules for gloves (and all other fencing equipment) can be found here (specifically section m.25 and m.26)
We will be checking gloves at the Asquith tournament, but we will be fairly lenient for this tournament so that fencers can be fully prepared in knowing what the expectations are going forward.
Essentially, worn out gloves will not be acceptable in the future.
